Dear Friends and Supporters,The past season has been full of excitement, and the coming few months bring many new adventures in my career. I’m thrilled to share with you the latest news, and as always, I’m grateful for your support and kind wishes. At the end of this newsletter, you will find a list of my upcoming performances. I hope to see you there!

Also, feel free to check out my newly redesigned website:

In a few weeks, I head to Houston to make my Houston Grand Opera (HGOco) debut as I sing the role of Meera in the world premiere of River of Light, composed by Jack Perla, and libretto by Chitra Divakaruni. The piece combines Western and Indian classical elements resulting in a hauntingly beautiful work about life, love, and change. The project is part of HGO’s Song of Houston: East + West series.
Over the past month or so, I have been fortunate enough to receive very positive reviews of my performance as Adele in Die Fledermaus, in a brand new English translation with Lamplighters Music Theatre. I’ve had so much fun performing the role, and I have loved meeting gracious and enthusiastic audience members in Walnut Creek, Napa, Livermore, and Mountain View. Our next and final performances are this weekend in San Francisco at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts – I perform Saturday night and Sunday matinee. Tickets are still available! Here’s what the critics are saying:“Maya Kherani especially shone in her Lamplighters debut as Adele, a chamber maid who dreams of someday becoming an actress. Kherani has what it takes for this typical Lamplighters fare: a strong, clear voice for the troupe’s signature unamplified singing, a bright stage presence and a genuine-feeling sense of humor that comes through in her every move.”  – Elizabeth Warnimont, Benicia Herald“The voices were beautiful, strong and pitch perfect the night I saw the performance. The sets, staging and costumes were uplifting carried the theme perfectly. The acting was superb as was the dancing.  Maya Kherani was the standout in a cast that was outstanding.” – Barbara Keer, Splash Magazine
Continuing my work in education, I recently sang the role of Rosina in The Barber of Seville with San Francisco Opera’s “Opera a la Carte” program. My work as a teaching artist was featured in an article entitled “An introduction to opera” in the Santa Rosa Press Democrat. This Winter and Spring, I’m singing the roles of the Queen of the Night, First Lady, and Papagena with West Bay Opera’s “Opera in the Schools” program. I truly treasure working with these inspiring children, and I am touched by how open they are to opera and classical music, even those as young as six years old. I, of course, love the question I always get from the kids, “How do sing so high?!”… too cute!
Lastly, I am so excited to join the Central City Opera Bonfils-Stanton Young Artist Program this summer as a Studio Artist. I will be singing in the ensembles of the three mainstage festival productions, Dead Man Walking, The Sound of Music, and The Marriage of Figaro, and I will also be covering the Trio Soprano in Trouble in Tahiti. I’m looking forward to spending 10 weeks in sunny, beautiful Colorado working with many talented artists!
