eUpdate | January 2013
Dear friends and supporters,
A very happy New Year to all! Last year brought many fun and exciting projects including my last appearances at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music as Poppea in Handel’s Agrippina, Despina in Mozart’s Cosi fan tutte, and my Graduate Recital. This fall, I loved working with various children around the Bay Area as Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance with SF Opera’s Outreach; the kids were so inspiring and incredible to work with. This past fall also marked my debut in solo concert engagements with the San Francisco Bach Choir and the Peninsula Symphony. As 2013 rolls in, I’m excited to share my upcoming projects with you, and I sincerely hope you can make it out to enjoy some wonderful music.
Ainadamar | Osvaldo Golijov | Opera Parallèle
Opera Parallèle’s annual spring production features the stunning opera, Ainadamar, which tells of the influence and relationships surrounding Spanish poet and writer, Federico Garcia Lorca. Sung entirely in Spanish, the production will feature video art, colorful costumes, and the renowned flamenco dance troupe, La Tania Baile.
The Daughter of the Regiment | Gaetano Donizetti | West Bay Opera in the Schools
West Bay Opera’s Outreach program focuses on engaging elementary and middle-school aged students in the art of opera! Favorite operas, taken from the standard opera repertoire, are adapted to a 40-minute format and translated into English, and small parts are incorporated designed for student participation. The Daughter of the Regiment is the fun and exciting story of how Marie finds her way from being the military tomboy to finding her dream man!
Near and dear to my heart, Princeton University Glee Club will present Handel’s masterpiece in the gorgeous Richardson Auditorium as part of the American Handel Society Festival 2013. As an alum and previous President of the Glee Club, I cannot wait to sing with my favorite choir once more!
Orpheus in the Underworld | Jacques Offenbach | Pocket Opera
A devilishly funny operetta in which the giddy gods, bored with life on Olympic Heights and ready for a change of pace, let down their hair, hell bent for excitement and fun. For those that like it hot, come join them for a wild party in Hades, culminating in the wickedly intoxicating can-can that swept the sophisticated world off its feet. Sung in English!
Sondheim’s hit Broadway musical based on the story of Benjamin Barker, a.k.a Sweeney Todd, who sets up a barber shop down in London which sets the stage for a sinister partnership with his fellow tenant, Mrs. Lovett. A hilarious and beautifully written piece, this is not one to miss!
Gesualdo, Prince of Madness | Dante De Silva | Opera Parallèle
Opera Parallèle closes the 2012-13 performance season with a workshop reading of its first commission, Gesualdo, Prince of Madness, a new opera by Los Angeles composer Dante De Silva. The two-act opera examines the sometimes flexible nature of justice through the figure of Carlo Gesualdo, a 16th century composer accused of murder who escaped prosecution because of his noble status.
I look forward to sharing these performances with you! If you are a performer, please let me know when your upcoming engagements are, as I would love to attend!
